WEAPON ABILITY

"Although my heart may be weak, it's not alone. It's grown with each new experience. And it's found a home with all the friends I've made. I've become a part of their heart, just as they've become a part of mine. And if they think of me now and then, if they don't forget me, then our hearts will be one.
I don't need a weapon. My friends are my power!"

Canon Keyblade Information
In Kingdom Hearts, most of the plot centers around a special weapon called a keyblade. Keyblades are pretty hax weapons all around. They can open any lock, permanently kill Heartless, act like a boomerang, be sharp enough to cut through buildings and even help travel across worlds if you have the slightest idea what you're doing.

Traditionally, Keyblades are wielded by a chosen person with a very strong heart. Only a chosen wielder can wield a keyblade (it will disappear out of the hand of someone not chosen), and take on an appearance to reflect the wielder's heart. Riku's represents his acceptance of both dark and light in his heart, Kairi's reflects her two homes and that she's a princess of heart and Mickey is so damn badass that his weapon turned to bling. Sora's meanwhile, possibly by virtue of being the first player character not as strong in heart as regular keyblade wielders, has a pretty plain keyblade that is a total knockoff of Mickey's.

Bastard is so lucky Mickey is a chill dude.

However, keyblades may not always keep their original forms! Their appearance can change if there's a strong change in the wielder's heart. But more commonly, it's through the power of friendship. When you meet someone in Kingdom Hearts verse, your hearts become connected. As you experience things together or become closer, this connection becomes stronger. When the connection becomes strong enough for a keyblade wielder, they can change the appearance and abilities of their keyblade to reflect the connection and heart of the other person. For example, Sora's friendship with Jack Skellington gave him a keyblade befitting for the Pumpkin King while befriending Winnie the Pooh gave him a keyblade reflecting the bear's never ending obsession.

While all keyblade wielders are capable of this keyblade changing trick through friendship, Sora being the one who draws power from his friendships and the most social of the wielders- uses this trick the most by far (like seriously there's been nearly 50 of them now). And with his chosen weapon in Exsilium being his keyblade, the crazy friendship weapon making will continue.

Exsilium Weapon Information
In [community profile] exsilium, Sora's chosen weapon was his keyblade. This power upgrade will allow his keyblade to change forms based on friendships he forms in Exsilium. Moreso than that, but while the keyblade is in a form reflecting a friendship, Sora will be able to use some of that character's abilities. For instance, if he befriended Peter Parker from Spiderman, while wielding that keyblade form he may be able to shoot webs.

For your character- what their keyblade looks like (via words or drawings, whatever your preference), what abilities it gives Sora and when/if he obtains it is entirely up to you. This is also entirely optional! Sora's made many friendships that didn't get him a keyblade, so if you rather not make one- you don't have to!

For those interested, here are some guidelines:

  • Design wise, there only seems to be two rules. First is that they must resemble some sort of key in shape (any kind of key), and second they have a keychain attached to them. Beyond that, their designs are widely varied to somehow represent the person of question.
  • You can either write up a description or for more artistic types, draw a keyblade. As long as I get an idea of what it looks like, I'm happy.
  • Ability wise, it's up to you what abilities he inherits from your character. Generally, it should be a weaker form of your character's power since hey he's your friend and not you. If your character has multiple abilities, just pick one or two abilities that are either your character's signature moves or the coolest or the easiest to mimic.
  • If your character doesn't have powers or ones that can really be mimic easily, it can be some ability or "stat boost" that some way represents your character. Like maybe if your character is a really good shot, their keyblade would be a gunblade that shoots bullets with good accuracy. Or if your character is a really good cook, it helps make really good pancakes. Be as creative or insane as you wish!
  • Sora gains the keyblade when both characters feel they are friends. If you want to change it have him earn it under different conditions (like a dramatic fight or when he folds 1,000 paper cranes), just let me know!

Again I must emphasize that this is an optional thing for his CR! If you don't want to design a keyblade, you so don't have to! This is mostly a fun play off of his power to fit into the Exsilium setting and let you have some say in the matter!

FAQ

Aside from what's said above, what should a keyblade look like?
The main point of the keyblade's apperance is to represent a person's heart. IE, it should be something that symbolizes your character somehow. Sometimes this is subtle artistic motifs, and other times....not so subtle!

If you need ideas, here is a list of all the keyblades shown in canon thus far. Not only that, but there are a lot of fans who have designed their own keyblades that are pretty easy to find via google! If you use their stuff, please credit them.

What if my character's ability matches a keyblade Sora already has?
Then you can either change the ability slightly so it's not the same (like maybe instead of giving fire magic, it protects against fire!), or Sora can have multiple keyblades with the same power- I am flexible!

Can I design another keyblade if my character already has one made?
Sure! Since characters and their relationships change over time, it's very possible that it'd be enough for the keyblade and its abilities to change too! Even in canon, some characters like Jack Skellington, Cloud and Leon give Sora multiple keyblades over the course of the series as they grow and change as people or their relationship with Sora changes.

If you decide your character or your character's relationship has changed enough to merit a new keyblade, just make a new comment with the new keyblade! Also let me know if he can still use the old keyblade from your character or if it's long gone.

If my character dies or drops, will he still be able to use the keyblade?
Yes! The keyblade displayed at the top of this section was given to him right after the character it represented died. The only way that Sora will lose the ability to use the keyblade is if he loses memories of their friendship or something causes him to lose his powers or resets them.

Available Keyblades
These are the keyblades that Sora can currently use in game. For simplicity, we'll say that choosing his keyblade as his weapon got rid of all his previous keyblade forms.
